The Hessisches Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen is the highest school supervisory authority in the state of Hessen. It shapes and controls education policy in order to continuously improve the quality of the school and teaching system and to provide all pupils with equal educational opportunities.
Core tasks and services:
The Ministry is responsible for educational planning, the development of core curricula and syllabuses, the allocation of teaching positions and the conception of the training and further education of teachers. It supervises both general education and vocational schools as well as schools for adults. It is also responsible for independent schools, German schools abroad and adult education.
School system and inclusion:
The Ministry shapes the Hessian school system in order to optimally support pupils with impairments and disabilities and to enable them to achieve the best possible qualification. It focuses on inclusion and offers a wide range of special educational support options.
Digitalization and media education:
Another focus is on the digitalization of the education system. The Ministry promotes media education and provides schools and teachers with digital tools and infrastructure to ensure contemporary teaching. This includes the "Digitale Schule Hessen" state program and the "Schulportal Hessen".
Values education and democracy education:
The Hessisches Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen attaches great importance to the imparting of values and the promotion of democracy education. It supports schools in implementing programs for values education and strengthening the understanding of democracy.
Programs and projects:
The Ministry initiates and supports numerous programs and projects, including learning camps, initiatives for anti-Semitism prevention, family classes and student competitions. The aim is to provide the best possible support for pupils and to offer them a wide range of learning and development opportunities.
School service:
The Ministry is responsible for the training, recruitment and further education of teachers. It offers a wide range of information and support for prospective and practicing teachers, including information on the foreign school service, e-mail addresses for schools and the working time account.
Organization:
The Ministry's area of responsibility includes the Hessian Teacher Training Academy and the State School Boards. The Hessian Teacher Training Academy interlinks the three phases of teacher training, school quality development and the qualification of school leaders. The State School Boards guarantee the quality of school work, the comparability of qualifications and the permeability of educational pathways.
