The Staatstheater Nürnberg is one of the largest multi-genre theaters in Germany and one of four state theaters in the Free State of Bavaria. It combines the genres of opera, ballet, drama and concert and presents over 700 performances annually with around 50 different productions. The program includes both classical works and rarities, contemporary pieces as well as world and first premieres, which are implemented by renowned directors and top-class ensembles. In addition to classical performance practice, the theater also develops innovative formats such as the Extended Reality Theater (XRT), which combines classical stage art with modern technologies such as Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence.
As the cultural center of the Nuremberg metropolitan region, the Staatstheater not only acts as an artistic heart, but also pursues an inclusive and barrier-free orientation by regularly offering special tours that take into account the needs of wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. The historical opera house, an architectural jewel of Art Nouveau in the middle of Nuremberg's old town, together with the modern Schauspielhaus and the Meistersingerhalle, forms the spatial framework for these diverse theater and concert experiences.
The mission of the Staatstheater Nürnberg is to offer excellent entertainment at the highest artistic level and to enrich the cultural life of the region in a sustainable way. The house continuously focuses on contemporary development, as underlined by the appointment of the first female director of the drama division. The artistic direction, consisting of a General Music Director and Opera Director as well as the Drama and Ballet Director, focuses on art education, which includes both traditional and innovative approaches.
Sustainability aspects are increasingly being taken into account at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, in particular through efforts to ensure accessibility and digital innovations that create new access to theater experiences. This openness to modern technologies and an inclusive offer contribute to ensuring that culture is in dialogue with social developments.
In summary, the Staatstheater Nürnberg stands for a diverse, innovative and inclusive theater program that combines tradition and modernity, combines artistic quality with social responsibility and, as a cultural beacon, plays an important role in Bavaria and beyond.
