The Neue Bühne Senftenberg is a traditional three-division theater in the heart of Niederlausitz, which has offered a diverse cultural program since its founding in 1946 as Stadttheater Senftenberg. As a vibrant artistic center of the region, the theater presents around 16 productions with over 300 performances each year, including comedies, classics, modern dramas and, since 2023, musicals again. The venues are located at the historical site, which was originally a gymnasium and now houses a modern theater building.
The theater has developed from its beginnings as a "Theater of the Miners" into a recognized stage with supra-regional appeal. It supports cultural diversity through an extensive repertoire that promotes both local and national artists. Since September 2022, it has been headed by Intendant Daniel Ris, Chefdramaturgin Karoline Felsmann and Hausregisseurin Elina Finkel. Under their leadership, the theater focuses on playful innovation, commitment to the region and lively ensemble work.
A central aspect of the Neue Bühne is its mission to make culture accessible to all and to strengthen the artistic diversity of Niederlausitz. The theater sees itself as a cultural hub that works with commitment to education and social participation, while also promoting children's and youth programs. The house promotes regional identity and combines multi-division theater tradition with modern stage art.
In the area of sustainability and future viability, the theater is setting a clear example with the extensive new construction of a state-of-the-art theater workshop since 2024. This was realized with the support of state funding and offers optimal conditions for craftsmanship in costumes, stage design and props. The investment in modern infrastructure helps to use resources efficiently and to sustainably continue the long-standing theater tradition.
The Neue Bühne Senftenberg is a cultural anchor point that inspires a wide audience with tradition, innovation and regional ties and significantly shapes the cultural landscape of Brandenburg. Their commitment is reflected not only in artistic diversity and high quality of productions, but also in their role as a driving force for the cultural development of the Lausitz region.
