The mission of the ifeu is to develop solutions for pressing sustainability issues through transdisciplinary research and goal-oriented consulting. The institute is committed to a sustainable and environmentally friendly future and works independently and non-profit.

The ifeu is active in numerous sustainability initiatives and projects:

• Expansion of Renewable Energies: The institute promotes the expansion of renewable energies and develops strategies for using state-owned land for wind energy, photovoltaics, and other renewable energy sources[1].
• Climate Protection in Municipalities: By creating guidelines and fact sheets, the ifeu supports municipalities in implementing climate protection measures and developing transformation plans[3].
• Educational and School Projects: The ifeu accompanies and supports school projects, such as the "Your.Climate" project, to train students as "Energy Managers" and promote sustainable practices in school life[2].

The ifeu is constantly engaged in current and future-oriented projects, such as the development of online tools to assess the environmental friendliness of electric vehicles and the organization of webinars on topics like renewable heating and energy-efficient renovation[2]. Through close collaboration with various stakeholders, the ifeu ensures a practical and scientifically sound implementation of its research results.
