The Institut für die Geschichte der deutschen Juden (IGdJ), founded in 1966, is the oldest and for a long time the only scientific institution of its kind in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is dedicated exclusively to the research and documentation of German-Jewish history.

The main mission of the IGdJ is to explore and document the diversity of Jewish life from the Early Modern period to the present. The institute places particular emphasis on scientific exchange and the deepening of existing research focuses in an international context. It promotes interaction between researchers, archives, and the public to enable a comprehensive understanding of German-Jewish history[1][2].
The Institut für die Geschichte der deutschen Juden in Hamburg is a central place for the research and preservation of German-Jewish history and culture, and it plays an important role in the scientific and social landscape.
