The
The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) is an internationally active human rights organization, founded in 1988. As the world's largest Tibet organization, ICT advocates for the respect of human rights, the promotion of democratic freedoms, and the protection of Tibetan culture and environment.
The main mission of ICT is to give a global voice to the peaceful resistance of the Tibetan people. The organization advocates for the adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and promotes awareness of the guarantees contained within it. ICT supports the right to freedom of expression, mental and physical integrity, and fights against discrimination. It employs all non-violent means to advocate for the self-determination of Tibetans to ensure their national and cultural survival[1][3][5].
ICT is committed to protecting Tibetan culture and the environment. Through the Rowell Fund, established after the death of ICT Co-Chair Galen Rowell and his wife Barbara, small grants are provided for Tibetan projects in the areas of environment/conservation, photography, humanitarian projects, journalism/literature, and women's projects[5].
ICT Deutschland e.V. is a signatory of the Initiative Transparent Civil Society by Transparency International and has had its non-profit status confirmed by the tax office for corporations in Berlin. The organization primarily finances its activities through donations and membership fees[1][3].
ICT has offices in Washington, D.C., Amsterdam, Brussels, and Berlin, as well as staff in Dharamsala, India. The international chair is the well-known actor Richard Gere, who has been advocating for the freedom and self-determination of Tibet for many years[3][5].
