    The Kassenärztliche Bundesvereinigung (KBV) is the political advocacy group for over 189,000 outpatient doctors and psychotherapists in Germany. As the umbrella organization of the 17 Kassenärztlichen Vereinigungen (KVens), the KBV organizes comprehensive, local outpatient healthcare for around 73 million statutory health insurance holders and advocates for their equivalent medical care at the federal level.

    Core tasks and services:

    • Advocacy: The KBV represents the interests of contracted doctors and psychotherapists vis-à-vis politics, health insurance companies and other actors in the healthcare system.
    • Ensuring care: The KBV ensures high-quality and comprehensive outpatient medical care in Germany.
    • Information and service: The KBV offers comprehensive information and services for doctors, psychotherapists and patients, including practice information, guidelines, apps, tools and the nationwide patient service number 116117.
    • Promoting digitization: The KBV is driving the digitization of the healthcare system, for example by promoting the electronic patient record (ePA) and the ePrescription.
    • Quality assurance: The KBV is committed to quality assurance in outpatient care, including through the development of quality reports and the support of quality circles.
