The KDN (Kommunale DatenNetz) is the umbrella organization of municipal IT service providers in North Rhine-Westphalia and actively promotes Verwaltungsdigitalisierung. With 29 members, it provides 427 Kommunen – cities, municipalities and districts – with comprehensive resources for a secure, efficient and sustainable IT infrastructure.[1][2]
KDN pools expertise and offers a broad portfolio of solutions:
For over 20 years, KDN has been setting uniform standards and creating central structures for faster, more stable processes.[1]
The core mission of the KDN is: "We pool the expertise of municipal IT in NRW and actively shape the digital transformation - for more efficiency, speed and stability."[1][2] As a platform, KDN brings together diverse actors, uses local knowledge and promotes joint action. Values such as Kooperation, Innovation and Nachhaltigkeit are at the center: "Together is better" - the entire "municipal family" benefits through intensive exchange, advocacy and economic advantages.[2]
The small, dedicated team of administration experts, digital strategists and technology professionals works with high responsibility and creative freedom to effect real change.[1]
KDN integrates sustainability into its digitalization strategies by prioritizing economic, secure and sustainable IT supply. Through joint procurement and standardization, resources are used efficiently, waste is reduced and long-term stability is promoted - essential for sustainable Smart City developments. Specifically, KDN.sozial contributes to the digital transformation of social services, which strengthens social inclusion and resource-saving administration.[1][2] Current initiatives focus on Ende-zu-Ende-Digitalisierung to support municipalities in mastering challenges such as data security and scalability.
In a diverse IT landscape, KDN makes the strengths of all usable: From consulting projects for individual digitalizations to innovative collaborations.[7] As a driver of "IT of tomorrow", KDN invites you to become part of the team and contribute ideas to projects.[2] In this way, the umbrella organization shapes the digitale Zukunft Nordrhein-Westfalens - efficiently, innovatively and with a view to the future.
