KESS (Strengthening Child Development and Language) is an interdisciplinary early intervention center in Frankfurt am Main that is dedicated to providing comprehensive support for children with developmental delays and disabilities[7]. As a specialized institution, KESS supports and advises parents and their children from birth until they start school, pursuing a holistic, resource- and family-oriented approach[2].
KESS offers individually tailored diagnostics, remedial education support and medical therapies for children who show developmental abnormalities or who have or are at risk of having a disability[7]. The core services include:
The institution works closely with kindergartens and other partners to ensure coordinated support[1].
The central concern of KESS is to help children catch up on developmental delays, use their strengths and develop new skills[7]. The institution pursues the following basic principles:
The interdisciplinary team at KESS consists of specialists from a wide range of disciplines who bring extensive additional qualifications and professional experience from various institutions[5]. Regular cooperation and intensive exchange with each other as well as with parents, kindergartens and other institutions are essential foundations of the work[5]. This close networking makes it possible to respond holistically to the individual needs of children and their families[5].
KESS is aimed at children who are disabled or at risk of disability, as well as children with delays or abnormalities in motor, mental, linguistic, social or emotional development[2][6]. Special attention is also paid to children with developmental risks, for example due to premature births[2].
KESS operates several locations in the Frankfurt and Offenbach area[1][3]. In September 2023, the institution opened an additional early intervention center in Frankfurt-Höchst to offer families better accessibility[1]. The headquarters are located just a few minutes' walk from Frankfurt Central Station in a large specialist medical center[7].
A big plus for families: KESS offers non-binding and free consultation appointments without a referral from a pediatrician being required[6][7]. This lowers access barriers and enables parents to quickly and easily access professional support.
KESS sees itself as a competent partner for families who are concerned about their child's development or need professional support for diagnosed developmental delays.
