The Akademieverein München e. V. is a support association that has existed since 1983 and is dedicated to the targeted support of young art at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.[1][2][3] With its commitment, it strengthens students, classes, and artistic projects, thereby creating important scope for experimental work, exchange, and visibility.[1][3][9]
The focus of the work is on funding for student projects such as exhibitions, publications, travel, and other artistic projects.[1][9] In addition, since 2006 the association has awarded studio scholarships and since 2008 prizes for diploma and annual exhibitions.[3][4] Another central element is the annual Akademie-Auktion (Academy Auction) held since 1990, at which works by students are auctioned and a significant portion of the proceeds goes directly to the artists.[3][5][6]
The mission of the Akademieverein is to sustainably support young artistic talents and actively promote their development at the Academy.[2][3][9] Originating from a circle of friends and supporters of the Academy, the association continues to connect people who are committed to the students and their artistic work.[3] This network of members and supporters helps to realize projects that would otherwise often not be feasible or only with difficulty.[1][3]
The association's values include support, connection, cultural dialogue, and the promotion of a vibrant, experimental art practice.[3][8] For members, a regular program of events is also offered, including studio and workshop visits, guided tours, talks, and screenings.[3][4] In this way, the association not only provides financial support but also promotes exchange, proximity to artistic practice, and an active art community.[2][3]
In the area of sustainability, the Akademieverein primarily focuses on long-term cultural impact: Through continuous support for more than 40 years, the promotion of emerging artists, and the strengthening of projects with sustainable development potential, the association contributes to the permanent cultural infrastructure of the Academy.[2][3][9] The regular formats and the close ties to the Academy ensure a lasting impact beyond individual projects and strengthen the next generation of artists.[3][4]
