The Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz Nordrhein-Westfalen (LANUV NRW) is the scientific and technical authority of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in 2007 and is subordinate to the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport. The LANUV is responsible for the protection of nature, the environment and consumers and advises the state government on these matters.
The Mission of the LANUV is to protect the environment, nature and consumers in North Rhine-Westphalia. Values such as sustainability, transparency and scientific excellence are central to this.
The LANUV has decided to introduce an environmental management system according to EMAS and is registered in the EMAS register. It has also prepared a DNK declaration (German Sustainability Code) to document its sustainability efforts. These systems help to continuously improve environmental performance and implement sustainable processes.
The LANUV employs around 1,400 people at its main locations in Recklinghausen, Essen and Duisburg, as well as at numerous branch offices throughout the state. This diversity of specialists enables the LANUV to effectively fulfill its comprehensive tasks.
In addition, the LANUV operates the Natur- und Umweltschutz-Akademie (NUA), which deals with further education and knowledge transfer in the field of environmental protection. The academy offers a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences between experts and interested parties.
