The Landesmusikrat Berlin e.V. is the central umbrella organization for the Berlin music institutions and associations. Founded in 1978, the Landesmusikrat represents the music-political interests of its over 50 member associations and more than 10 individual members to the Berlin Senate, the parties in the Berlin House of Representatives, and the media.
The main mission of the Landesmusikrat is to promote and preserve musical life in Berlin. It sees itself as a "guardian of artistic and cultural interests" and is guided by the principles of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural Diversity. The Landesmusikrat is committed to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, contemporary artistic expressions, and the cultures of other countries in Germany.
The Landesmusikrat is actively engaged in shaping the music life in Berlin and advocates for the security of public music schools. It participates in demonstrations and campaigns against planned cuts in culture and promotes musical diversity and cultural exchange in the city through its projects. The Landesmusikrat has a clear organizational structure with a general assembly, a presidium, and a secretary general. The presidium consists of a president, a vice president, a treasurer, and other representatives of important music institutions in Berlin.
