The Landesrektorenkonferenz Baden-Württemberg (LRK BW) is an association of the nine universities of the state of Baden-Württemberg: Freiburg, Heidelberg, Hohenheim, Karlsruhe (KIT), Konstanz, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Tübingen and Ulm. It promotes cooperation between these member universities in the central areas of research and teaching.
The main mission of the LRK BW is to represent the interests of the universities in the education and science sector, both to higher education policy and to the public. This is done by developing joint statements on higher education and science policy issues. The LRK BW serves as a platform for the exchange of information between the universities and brings common problems and objectives into public and political discussion.
The LRK BW informs its member universities about current higher education policy developments and prepares joint decisions and resolutions through statements and recommendations developed by the rectors and presidents of the universities.
The LRK BW contributes to strengthening Baden-Württemberg as a science location by pooling the expertise of the universities and supporting the further development of research, teaching and transfer at the highest level. It actively shapes the future of science through excellent cooperation, sustainable concepts and international appeal.
An important aspect of the work of the LRK BW is the representation of the interests of the universities vis-à-vis political decision-makers and the public. The LRK BW is committed to adequate funding for the universities and draws attention to the importance of research and teaching for society.
The LRK BW regularly publishes statements on current higher education policy issues and provides information on news and developments relating to the universities in Baden-Württemberg.
The LRK BW attaches great importance to the protection of personal data and processes it in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (DS-GVO) and the state-specific data protection regulations.
The LRK BW is headed by an executive board consisting of the chairman and his deputy. The current chairman is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Weber, President of the Universität Ulm, and the deputy chairwoman is Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. (Dōshisha) Karla Pollmann, Rector of the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (as of April 2024).
A recent study proves the economic importance of the state universities: Every euro invested in the Baden-Württemberg universities generates a value of €4.98.
