It was founded in 1961 as a self-help association for relatives, especially parents of children with intellectual disabilities. Today, Lebenshilfe Essen offers a wide range of services to support people with disabilities in all areas of life.
The main mission of Lebenshilfe Essen is to enable people with disabilities to live a fulfilled, dignified and self-determined life in an inclusive society. The organization is politically and religiously neutral and attaches great importance to acceptance and appreciation of all people. It works in partnership with relatives, legal guardians and employees to ensure high quality and satisfaction.
