The Lebenshilfe im Fichtelgebirge e.V. is a dedicated association that has been active as a self-help organization, parents' association, sponsoring association and professional association since 1969. With around 220 employees and 220 members, it offers comprehensive services for people with intellectual, mental or multiple disabilities of all ages and their relatives - always with the aim of enabling self-determined, dignified and respected life in the middle of society.[1][2][3]
The core mission of the association lies in the promotion of effective assistance measures that ensure participation in all areas of life. Founded by parents of mentally disabled children on April 16, 1969 in Marktredwitz, the association is under the umbrella of the Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe and the Landesverband Bayern. form the supporting element: At least eight of the 13 board members come from their ranks. From humble beginnings - opening a special school in 1969 and a workshop in 1974 - the association grew continuously: Mobile early intervention 1974, own support centers 2004, P-workshop 2020 and residential home expansion 2023. Name changes and statute adjustments (most recently 2017) reflect the development.[1][2]
Explicit sustainability goals are not described in detail, but the commitment to long-term participation and inclusion implies sustainable structures. The Stiftung der Lebenshilfe promotes disabled people and their relatives on a non-profit basis.
