The Leibniz-Institut für Resilienzforschung (LIR) is a scientifically independent, non-university research institute that specializes in researching resilience. Resilience refers to the ability to maintain or quickly restore mental health during or after stressful life circumstances. The LIR develops evidence-based interventions to promote resilience and implement effective measures in areas such as healthcare, businesses, schools and universities[3][5].
The mission of the LIR is to research the mechanisms of resilience and put them into practice. It pursues an interdisciplinary approach that includes neurobiology, physics, medicine and psychology. A central value is close cooperation with universities and research institutions to train and advise on current knowledge[5].
The LIR is committed to providing sustainable solutions for society by developing and implementing resilience-promoting interventions. It participates in international research programs such as the EU research program "DynaMORE" and the DFG Collaborative Research Center 1193 "Neurobiology of Resilience" in order to achieve long-term positive effects on mental health[5].
The LIR is a non-profit limited liability company (gGmbH) and works closely with the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and the Universitätsklinikum Mainz. It is managed by a scientific and commercial board of directors and has a supervisory board consisting of representatives from science, politics and society[1][2].
