With its headquarters in Schwerin, the organization functions as one of the most important institutions in the healthcare system of the federal state and is committed to excellent treatment standards.
The LQMV is dedicated to the continuous improvement of healthcare through systematic quality control and development[1]. As part of quality assurance procedures, data is collected, compared and evaluated in order to implement measures to improve quality[1]. The results of these analyses are passed on to responsible bodies at federal and state level in order to support a transparent and data-driven health policy[1].
The LQMV ensures the implementation of mandatory quality assurance measures of the Gemeinsamen Bundesausschusses (G-BA)[2]. The main tasks include checking hospitals and dental and medical practices with regard to the quality of treatment[2]. The organization implements comprehensive quality assurance procedures that are used in inpatient and, in some cases, outpatient settings[2].
In addition, the LQMV organizes an annual quality conference for doctors, dentists, hospital staff and other interested parties from the healthcare sector[2]. These events offer a platform for knowledge exchange and networking in the field of medical quality assurance. The next conference is planned for January 2027[6].
Further tasks include the implementation of the directive on planning-relevant quality indicators, the directive on measures for quality assurance of the care of premature and newborn infants and the processing of the quality report from hospitals[2].
The LQMV is supported by a broad sponsorship, consisting of the state associations of health insurance companies, the substitute health insurance companies, the hospital association, the Kassenzahnärztlichen and the Kassenärztlichen Vereinigung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern[2].
The LQMV-Geschäftsstelle takes on administrative tasks and carries out statement procedures with hospitals and dental and medical practices[2]. It also offers information and advice for service providers[2]. The team is led by the management and consists of several speakers and administrators[4].
The LQMV functions as an important link to the G-BA and the Zentralen Institut für Qualitätssicherung und Transparenz im Gesundheitswesen (IQTIG)[2]. This network function enables close coordination between regional requirements and federal requirements. The Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (KVMV) serves as an interface to the LQMV for established doctors[2].
The LQMV continuously follows new developments in medical quality assurance and implements them in its work. For example, new quality assurance procedures such as the diagnostics and therapy of sepsis have been integrated into the existing structures[7]. The organization regularly adapts its procedures to current standards and scientific findings.
Through its systematic work, the LQMV makes a significant contribution to ensuring that patients in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern benefit from high-quality medical services[1][3]. The quality assurance measures enable transparency about the quality of care and create incentives for continuous improvements in hospitals and practices[2].
