The Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur (MWFK) des Landes Brandenburg shapes the framework conditions for science, higher education, research, and culture in the state of Brandenburg and thus promotes central future fields of the state.[5] It sees itself as a state steering and funding body that strengthens scientific excellence, cultural diversity, and transfer into society.[5][8]
In the area of Science and Research, the MWFK supports universities, research networks, and innovative projects, among other things, through funding programs to strengthen technological and application-oriented research.[8] Another focus is on Digitalization: The Ministry is driving forward central digitalization projects together with Brandenburg's universities, thus creating the basis for modern research, teaching, and administrative structures.[6] Current topics such as Artificial Intelligence are also actively addressed and integrated into expert exchange formats.[7]
In the Cultural Sector, the MWFK promotes the development and preservation of art and cultural heritage. In particular, digitalization in culture opens up new possibilities for the production, mediation, and preservation of cultural content in Brandenburg.[1] In doing so, the Ministry supports cultural institutions in expanding their reach and creating new access for the public.[1][5]
A further important area of responsibility is Study and Education Policy. The MWFK provides information and support, among other things, on questions regarding study opportunities, university access, and the recognition of qualifications, including access for refugees and people with foreign educational qualifications.[2] In doing so, the Ministry contributes to equal opportunities, integration, and skilled labor development.[2][5]
The central Values of the MWFK include strengthening education and science, openness to innovation, promoting cultural participation, and cooperation with universities, research institutions, and cultural actors.[5][6][8] In practice, this is reflected in a strategic, cooperative, and long-term oriented policy for Brandenburg's knowledge and cultural landscape.[5]
Sustainability also plays an important role in the work of the MWFK – especially in terms of a long-term viable development of science, culture, and digital infrastructure. By promoting modern, efficient, and future-oriented structures and by preserving cultural heritage, the Ministry contributes to sustainable social development in Brandenburg.[1][6][8]
Overall, the MWFK stands for a policy that combines Innovation, Education, Research, and Culture and strengthens Brandenburg as a high-performing, open, and future-oriented location.[5][6]
