Münchner Tafel e.V.

The Münchner Tafel e.V. is an independent, non-governmental organization that has been supporting people in poverty in Munich since 1994. Founded by seven dedicated Munich residents, the Münchner Tafel is one of the first food banks in Germany.

Our main mission is to rescue food and distribute it to those in need instead of destroying it. We are committed to combating poverty and food waste and strive to promote a solidary and just society. Our commitment is based on the values of solidarity, sustainability, and social responsibility.

• Food Distribution: Every week, we provide over 20,000 people in poverty with about 125,000 kilograms of food at 28 distribution points and more than 100 social institutions in Munich[3][4].
• Logistical Organization: Our work is supported by a well-structured logistical organization that enables us to efficiently collect, store, and distribute food. We use a fleet of 18 refrigerated transport vehicles and the help of over 1000 volunteers[1][4].

We are supported by numerous donors, sponsors, the city of Munich, and the wholesale market. Important partners include Amazon, Dallmayr, and local businesses that help us both financially and with food donations[1][2].

• Reduction of Food Waste: By rescuing and distributing food, we contribute to the reduction of food waste.
• Support for Those in Need: We focus on providing for people in poverty, including seniors, those who are physically or mentally ill, single parents with children, and people in distress[2][3].
• Assistance in Crisis Situations: During the COVID-19 pandemic and other crisis situations, such as supporting refugees from Ukraine, we have continued to maintain and expand our services[3].
