The
The Netzwerk Stiftungen und Bildung is a nationwide specialist and relationship network that brings together foundations, associations and civil society actors to jointly shape education locally. It is supported by the Verein Stiftungen für Bildung e.V. and comprises over 1,292 members (Netties), who offer an enormous range of expertise and geographical reach.[1][3]
The central Mission of the network is: Education can be shaped jointly locally. It emphasizes the indispensable role of civil society - volunteers, associations, foundations and initiatives - for a strong democracy, social cohesion and individual participation. Education is understood as a joint task that uses local expertise and regional contexts to enable diverse contributions.[1][6][8] Core values are cooperation, expertise and local commitment, as stated in guidelines and flyers.[3]
The network offers a comprehensive Knowledge Center with materials, news and a glossary on education topics. It organizes Events that promote exchange and provides resources such as network information (e.g. from February 17, 2026) and articles that highlight the strengths of the network.[3][4]
In addition, it supports regional foundation networks, such as in Bayern or Hessen. The Stiftungsnetzwerk Bildung in Bayern connects local foundations, while in Hessen in November 2023 around 90 foundations founded their own network.[2][8] Further initiatives such as SV-Bildungswerk expand the offer.[5] A Network Logo is available to participants to make membership visible.[9]
The network presents inspiring examples, such as the Das macht Schule initiative: It provides used company hardware free of charge to schools throughout Deutschland to promote digital education (as of April 2025).[7] Such projects underscore the focus on innovative, practical solutions.
Although explicit sustainability goals are not listed in detail, the network integrates long-term education promotion as a sustainable approach. Through networks at the state level and civil society engagement, it aims at permanent structures that anchor education regionally and strengthen social cohesion. The emphasis on local design contributes to resilient educational landscapes that prioritize social and democratic sustainability.[1][3][6]
The network positions itself as a strong voice for foundation-based educational work: With expertise from diverse regions, it creates synergies that make education accessible and inclusive. It invites foundations and committed people to join and actively participate.[1][3]
