Niedersächsischer Landesrechnungshof

The Niedersächsische Landesrechnungshof (LRH) is the independent, external financial control of the state of Niedersachsen. As the highest state authority based in Hildesheim, the LRH is exclusively subject to the law by virtue of the Niedersachsen constitution. This independence enables the LRH to perform its tasks without influence and to ensure objective control of the state's budget and financial management.

The LRH audits the entire state budget and the associated administration for legality, regularity and economy. A particular focus is on the supra-local municipal audit, which is headed by the President of the LRH. The aim is to monitor the financial situation of the Niedersachsen municipalities and to contribute to improving budget management.

The LRH publishes the results of its audits and recommendations annually in a comprehensive annual report, which is submitted to the Landtag and the state government. This report serves as the basis for the Landtag's decision on the discharge of the state government and is also summarised in a memorandum. The annual reports and other publications of the LRH are publicly accessible and are presented at a press conference in order to achieve a broad response from the public.

The LRH makes an important contribution to the transparency and efficiency of public administration in Niedersachsen. Through its independent financial control, it helps to use tax money responsibly and to secure the state's future viability.
