The Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv (NLA) is a central institution for the preservation and development of historical documents and traditions in Niedersachsen. It was founded on January 1, 2005 and comprises eight departments in various cities of the state.
The main mission of the NLA is to preserve the historical traditions of the state of Niedersachsen and its predecessor territories since the Middle Ages and to make them available for scientific use. It promotes historical research and the processing of historical events, such as the fates of "Verschickungskinder" by providing relevant files.
The NLA is committed to the long-term preservation of historical documents and promotes digital accessibility of these holdings. It participates in projects for the in-depth scientific development of historical protocols and supports the processing of historical events by providing relevant sources.
Currently, the NLA podcast "Neu und entstaubt" is celebrating its second year and offers insights into historical topics. In addition, an exhibition about agricultural women's schools is being shown in the Bückeburg department. The NLA is also involved in the digital presentation of its holdings, e.g. through the online geo search.
The Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv is a central partner for historical research and education in Niedersachsen and makes a significant contribution to the preservation and development of regional history.
