The Ensemble Noisten is an innovative music quartet from North Rhine-Westphalia, founded in 1999, that is dedicated to the further development and expansion of Jewish Klezmer music. Under the direction of clarinetist Reinald Noisten, the ensemble combines traditional Klezmer sounds with numerous global music styles such as Flamenco, Tamil, Turkish music, Jazz and Classical music. This intercultural diversity is brought to life through the use of a variety of instruments such as clarinet, guitar, double bass, Indian Tabla, Arabic Darbuka and African Djembe. This creates musical worlds that playfully transcend the boundaries of classical genres and respectfully preserve the characteristics of the individual traditions, while also bringing them to new life through improvisation and original composition.
Beyond pure concert programs, the ensemble is committed to intercultural dialogue and cultural understanding. This is particularly evident in projects such as "Klezmer trifft Derwisch" (Klezmer meets Dervish), in which Jewish and Islamic musical traditions are brought together and combined with dance. The collaboration with actress Nina Hoger, symphony orchestras and other cultural partners underlines the diverse artistic approaches and the ensemble's openness to different forms of expression.
The main mission of the Ensemble Noisten is to celebrate the Jewish musical tradition in an ideology-free and contemporary way, to connect people across cultural differences and to build musical bridges between cultures. The focus is on creative, communal music-making, which both touches and invites to compassionate celebration.
Sustainability or explicit environmental initiatives are not directly mentioned on the website. However, the ensemble strongly focuses on cultural sustainability through the preservation and invigorating development of musical heritage, as well as intercultural dialogue as a contribution to social understanding.
With over 25 years of experience and several CD productions, the Ensemble Noisten is a firmly established name in the German and European music scene. Its performances take place in a wide variety of cultural contexts - from classical concerts to intercultural festivals and memorial events, where both history is remembered and Jewish culture is celebrated.
Briefly: Ensemble Noisten is an innovative, interculturally oriented Klezmer quartet that combines traditional Jewish music with global influences to build musical bridges between cultures and make cultural diversity accessible without ideology[1][2][3][4][5].
