ProTandem is the Franco-German agency for exchanges in vocational training. Since 1980, it has supported around 3,000 participants – young people and adults – annually in over 50 professional sectors through targeted exchange programs.[1][2]
ProTandem organizes face-to-face, hybrid and group exchanges in the training and further education phase. Participants gain practical experience in companies, chambers, guilds, associations and inter-company facilities in the partner country. Programs include groups of at least eight trainees or individuals and take place throughout Germany and France (including overseas territories). The agency provides support with to overcome language barriers and impart in-depth specialist knowledge in the partner language.[3][4][5][9]
The program is based on the Agreement of February 5, 1980 between the foreign ministers of both countries, which regulates exchanges in vocational training and further education. By 2017, over 100,000 participants had been reached – a milestone for sustainable binational cooperation.[1]
The main mission of ProTandem is to strengthen Franco-German partnerships. It works closely with educational institutions, companies and chambers to promote professional mobility and intercultural skills. Values such as trust, professionalism and inclusion shape its actions: exchanges enrich CVs, attract talent and strengthen the European labor market.[1][2][8]
ProTandem emerged in 2018 from the Franco-German Secretariat (DFS) and positions itself as a central point of contact for innovative forms of learning.[1]
ProTandem integrates sustainability goals through flexible formats such as hybrid exchanges, which minimize travel and still enable intensive encounters. The agency publishes Newsletters twice a year in German and French to inform partners about current developments, documents and best practices. Initiatives aim at inclusion: from initial training to further education, equal opportunities and lifelong learning are promoted.[7][9]
Through close networks, ProTandem contributes to EU-wide mobility and supports companies in attracting young talent.[5]
ProTandem embodies over four decades of expertise and remains indispensable for strong Franco-German vocational training. Its programs not only create professional opportunities, but also promote lasting friendships and European values.[1][2]
