The Region Köln/Bonn e.V., founded in 1992, is the central Regionalmanagement for one of Germany's most dynamic metropolitan regions. As a registered association, it unites the independent cities of Köln, Bonn and Leverkusen as well as the districts of Rhein-Sieg, Rhein-Erft, Rhein-Kreis Neuss, Oberbergischer Kreis and Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. With over 3.6 million inhabitants, the region benefits from its central location in Europe, making it one of the most efficient economic areas – characterized by large-scale industry, innovative SMEs, a first-class research and university landscape and a diverse range of cultural and recreational opportunities.[2][7][8]
As a concept and strategy developer, initiator, moderator and networker, the association acts as the towards the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen and the federal government. It coordinates cooperations, manages projects and promotes integrated spatial development. This includes specialist areas such as , and . The team under Managing Director Dr. Reimar Molitor supports numerous – from working groups to cooperation rounds – that specifically implement topics such as spatial development, mobility and digitalization. Communication is aimed at local authorities, politics, business, science and the specialist public in order to strengthen networking and position the region externally.[3][5][6][7]
The association's main mission is to drive forward the sustainable transformation of the region. In a dynamic growth area such as the Region Köln/Bonn, challenges such as the Energie- und Ressourcenwende, Klimaschutz, Klimawandelanpassung, Mobilitätswende and Digitalisierung are the focus. The association emphasizes Teilhabe, Engagement und Transparenz as core values of a vibrant region. It creates platforms for dialogue, such as events, trade fairs and innovation forums, that bring stakeholders together and develop forward-looking solutions.[2][4][5]
Nachhaltigkeit is at the heart of our work: The association is shaping far-reaching restructuring processes to be future-proof in order to manage Klimawandel and use resources efficiently. Specialized teams are dedicated to Energie- und Klimaschutz, integrated spatial development and open space planning. Initiatives aim at resilient infrastructure, green mobility and economic resilience – always in line with social and global developments. Through projects and committee work, the region is positioned as a pioneer for a lebenswerte, innovative und klimaneutrale Zukunft.[2][6]
