The Schiffbauergasse is a vibrant, international art and culture district in Potsdam, located on the picturesque Tiefen See. Covering an area of 12,000 m², the district combines an impressive variety of cultural institutions, museums, theaters, venues, gastronomy and leisure activities.
The heart of the Schiffbauergasse is a varied program with over 2,000 events annually, attracting more than half a million visitors. These include internationally renowned festivals such as the Potsdamer Tanztage, the Unidram – Internationales Theaterfestival Potsdam and Havelbeats, as well as exhibitions of contemporary art, theater performances, concerts, readings, courses and workshops.
The Schiffbauergasse is home to important cultural institutions such as the Hans Otto Theater, the fabrik Potsdam (International Center for Dance and Movement Art), the T-Werk (International Center for Theater and Theater Education), the Museum Fluxus+ and the Waschhaus Potsdam, a free cultural center. These institutions shape the cultural life of Potsdam and Brandenburg and offer a diverse range of activities for art and culture enthusiasts of all ages.
The mission of the Schiffbauergasse is to create an open and accessible space for art, culture and encounters. The Culture and Location Management of the Schiffbauergasse coordinates the activities of the various actors, markets the district and develops location-wide cultural formats. It is the central point of contact for all inquiries and concerns relating to the Schiffbauergasse.
The Schiffbauergasse looks back on an eventful history. Originally an industrial site, later a military area, the site has developed into a lively cultural district in recent decades. Many of the historical buildings, such as the Schinkelhalle, the Reithallen and the ZichorienmĂĽhle, have been extensively renovated and now house cultural institutions and gastronomic establishments.
