Sonderpflege e.V. has been an established, non-profit organization for free youth welfare since 1978 with over 45 years of experience in the professional care of children and adolescents who, for various reasons, cannot live in their family home.[1][2][4] Founded by former employees of a children's village, the association combines the warmth of a foster family with professional pedagogy and offers a stable environment decentrally in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.[1][3][4]
The main focus includes around 50 socio-educational living communities (SpLG), also known as educational placements, supplemented by two small family-like residential groups, two boys' residential groups and two trauma-pedagogical children's residential groups - a total of approx. .[1][2][6] In these , pedagogical specialists live together with the children in their own homes, without shift work, and create constant, long-term relationships.[1][2][3] The care is holistic and individual: From infants to young adults, with an average length of stay of , often until they become independent.[6] Diverse variants such as residential groups for boys or day groups with affiliated schools cover different needs, always after individual case review.[2][3]
The institution is organized into five regions, led by a equally represented board with commercial and pedagogical management as well as regional educational management.[1][7] Over 140 employees in full-time and part-time positions, supported by volunteers, ensure continuous quality. So far, more than 1000 children have been cared for in 200 different communities, in cooperation with over 60 youth welfare offices.[6]
The main mission is: To walk "a piece of the way together" with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities or traumas and to give them a new home.[1][3] Core values are reliability, holism and relationship stability under family-like conditions that promote development.[1][2][3] As a non-denominational association, Sonderpflege is a member of Paritätischen NRW and Niedersachsen, in the IGFH, the Ombudschaft Jugendhilfe NRW and in the Fachverband Traumapädagogik - signs of high professional standards.[1] The name "Sonderpflege" stands for innovative forms of care that combine foster family and professional education, and for the willingness to develop new projects.[4]
Sonderpflege e.V. lives its values through donation appeals for individual needs such as therapies, learning materials or bicycles to enrich the care.[4] As an employer, the association is constantly looking for committed specialists who want to build educational placements.[2] In a time of growing challenges in youth welfare, the focus remains on sustainable, trauma-sensitive pedagogy that offers children stability and perspectives.[1][3]
With its decentralized structure and many years of expertise, Sonderpflege e.V. is a reliable partner for public youth welfare - a place where children are not only cared for, but also encouraged and loved.[1][6]
