The Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst is the central state forestry administration of the Free State of Saxony and employs around 1,400 employees who work daily to protect, manage and maintain the Saxon forests.[1] As a regional actor, the company manages a management area of 200,000 hectares of state forest and acts as a competent partner for forest owners, nature conservation and research.[3][7]
Sachsenforst offers a wide range of forest-related services, ranging from classic forest management to innovative offers:
The Forstbezirke such as Leipzig (65 municipalities, 778 districts), Chemnitz, Neudorf and others cover the whole of Saxony and guarantee regional presence.[4][2][8]
The core task of Sachsenforst is the sustainable management of state forests and the advice of private forest owners, combined with the role as the upper forestry and hunting authority.[7] As the Office for Large Protected Areas and Nature Conservation Authority, the company manages Saxony's four most important protected areas and acts as a natural area manager.[7] Values such as professional competence, regionality and practical orientation characterize everyday life: Organizational separation of operation and authority ensures efficient processes, while the competence center promotes research and experiments.[1][6][7] Sachsenforst positions itself as the central contact for all forest-related topics - from citizen concerns to forest fire prevention.[1][5]
Sustainability is at the heart of our actions: The management of the 200,000 hectares of state forest aims at the long-term preservation of forest ecosystems, including protection against hazards such as forest fires.[1][3] As a Nature Conservation Authority, Sachsenforst implements measures in large protected areas, promotes biodiversity and acts as a natural area manager.[7] Business reports such as the Jahresbericht 2023 document progress in sustainable forestry, research and climate protection.[10] Initiatives include silvicultural trials, recreational offers and the integration of private forests into ecological concepts - all under the motto of resilient, multifunctional forests for future generations.[3][7]
With strong regional roots and innovative tools such as the Förstersuche, Sachsenforst makes the Saxon forest lively, worth protecting and usable. The company combines tradition with modern forestry and makes a significant contribution to the green heart of Saxony.[1][3]
