The Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Zwickau GmbH (SVZ) is a municipal service provider for public transport in Zwickau and the surrounding region. With a history of over 130 years, the company has shaped the mobility and urban development of the Zwickau region for decades.[8]
The SVZ operates a comprehensive network of bus and tram lines that transports approximately 35,000 people in the region every day.[3] The scheduled service network currently comprises 15 bus lines, three night bus lines and two tram lines with a total of over 400 stops.[4] The company has a modern and regularly renewed vehicle fleet: 27 buses (consisting of 13 articulated buses and 14 standard buses) and 27 trams of the KT4D and GT6M types.[4]
As a reliable mobility partner, the SVZ handles approximately 10.3 million passenger trips annually, providing essential infrastructure for mobility in the region.[4]
The company sees itself as a strong and reliable employer in the region, firmly rooted in the Zwickau community. The SVZ works closely with its cooperation partner Regionalverkehr Westsachsen GmbH and is a member of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS), which enables coordinated and efficient mobility in the Mittelsachsen region.[1][6]
The mission of the SVZ is to mobilize the region sustainably and user-friendly. The company relies on modern transport solutions and actively contributes to reducing and preserving the environment.[3]
A key focus of the SVZ is on climate-friendly and environmentally friendly mobility. The entire bus fleet is powered by biomethane gas, which significantly reduces emissions and makes it low in pollutants.[2] This forward-looking conversion took place in January 2019 and replaces the previous natural gas supply.[2]
All buses are equipped as low-floor buses, which enables barrier-free and comfortable access for all passengers. The modern trams and the environmentally friendly bus fleet together ensure comfortable and climate-friendly journeys through the city.[3] The provision of a biomethane filling station at the bus depot underlines the commitment to sustainable energy supply.[3]
The SVZ employs 221 employees and 15 trainees[4] and is 100 percent owned by Stadtwerke Zwickau Holding GmbH, which in turn is wholly owned by the city of Zwickau.[2] The company is managed by the managing directors Steve Preißner and Sebastian Eßbach.[9]
The operation is divided into two modern locations: The tram depot has extensive parking areas and a modern workshop building with an integrated washing system. The track construction and system maintenance areas as well as the central administration are also located here.[3] The bus depot is operated in close cooperation with Regionalverkehr Westsachsen GmbH and has an attached workshop and biomethane filling station.[3]
With a track network of 47 kilometers and significant annual scheduled kilometers, the SVZ provides a stable and reliable infrastructure.[4] The company also offers a wide range of career opportunities – from driving services to the workshop area to administration – and sees itself as an attractive employer in the region.[7]
The SVZ is a prime example of sustainable and user-oriented mobility in Mittelsachsen and is constantly setting new standards in the combination of modern infrastructure, environmental awareness and customer service.
