The Theater Pforzheim is the largest and most important cultural institution in the city of Pforzheim and the entire region. As a Dreispartenhaus (three-division theater) since 1990 in the modern building on Waisenhausplatz (architect: Bodo Fleischer), it attracts around 135,000 spectators annually and offers around 500 performances per year.[1][4]
The theater enriches the cultural calendar with a varied program that includes Oper, Operette, Musical, Schauspiel, Komödie, Ballett und Sinfoniekonzerte (opera, operetta, musical, drama, comedy, ballet and symphony concerts). The Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim provides high-quality orchestral music, while in-house productions range from baroque operas to contemporary dramas. Each season sees around 25 premieres and several revivals, appealing to a broad audience - from adults to families.[1][4][5]
Two main venues characterize the house: the Große Haus (Large House) with 511 seats and the flexible Podium with up to 193 seats. The foyer also serves as a venue. The offer is complemented by the Junge Theater "BÜPF" (Young Theater "BÜPF"), a fourth division with theater educationally accompanied programs for children and young people of all divisions: drama, dance, musical theater and concerts. Cooperations with schools promote access to culture.[1][4]
With ensembles for musical theater, drama, dance, choir and the philharmonic orchestra, as well as around 240 employees, a strong artistic team is ready.[2][3]
The Mission of the theater is to bring central social issues to the stage and stimulate public discourse - especially on future topics such as ecological transformation. It positions itself as a place of encounter, liveliness and debate, using art to offer enlightenment and inspiration. Values such as high artistic quality, inclusion and social relevance characterize the actions of the management and all employees.[2][4]
Nachhaltigkeit (Sustainability) is firmly anchored in the company's goals and intrinsically motivated. The theater is committed to the 17 UN-Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on ecological and economic aspects. Measures include reducing the ecological footprint of stage sets and costumes, for example through sustainable materials and processes. Topics such as environmental protection are negotiated on stage and deepened in formats accompanying the play with the audience.[2]
Close cooperation with the Hochschule Pforzheim (Pforzheim University) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ingela Tietze promotes the exchange on Sustainability topics. In this way, cultural education is linked with responsible action.[2]
The Theater Pforzheim combines tradition with modernity and creates cultural impulses for Pforzheim and beyond. It remains a lively meeting place for art lovers and the curious.[1][4]
