The
The Stiftung Lesen, founded in 1988 in Mainz, is a central institution in the field of reading promotion and media literacy in Germany. It is committed to promoting reading pleasure and reading skills in all age and population groups in order to support a healthy and resilient society.
The Stiftung Lesen is under the patronage of the Federal President and works closely with federal and state ministries, scientific institutions, foundations, associations and companies. The aim is to promote reading skills as a fundamental prerequisite for personal development and successful life management. Its programs and initiatives are designed to support every form of reading, from books to digital media to audio media.
The foundation relies on long-term partnerships and research projects to ensure the scientific basis of its work. Its Institut für Lese- und Medienforschung (founded in 2006) is a central component in translating research results into practical projects.
Through voluntary engagement, such as reading aloud, the Stiftung Lesen not only wants to help children with reading difficulties, but also address social issues such as integration, education and equal opportunities. Their Kampagnen, like #MachmitLiesvor, aim to raise awareness of the importance of reading in society.
The Stiftung Lesen is therefore not only a promoter of reading skills, but also an important driver of social change through education and culture.
