The Stiftung Rominger is a non-profit foundation in Stuttgart that has been operating kindergartens and crèches for children aged 0 to 6 since 1878. Founded by the merchant Johannes Rominger to provide a safe home for neglected children in the Heslach district, the foundation has developed into an established provider of high-quality early childhood education.[3][4]
It all began in 1878 at Möhringer Straße 39, before its own building was erected in Böheimstraße 58 in 1884. Under the patronage of Queen Olga and later Duchess Wera, the foundation continued to grow despite challenges such as the Second World War. After an air raid in 1944 and a new building in 1954, the main site was continuously modernized – most recently in 2013/2014 with a comprehensive renovation. Today, the foundation cares for with over 60 employees.[3][4]
Since September 2021, it has expanded its offering to include the Kita Rominger Zuffenhausen (90 children in 6 groups) and since November 2023 to include the Kita Rominger Killesberg (75 children in 5 groups). The foundation is managed by an executive board and a foundation board, which ensures stable and value-oriented leadership.[3][4]
In the Stiftung Rominger’s daycare centers, a colorful, multicultural daycare life is the focus. Every child and every family is welcomed and valued in their diversity. The facilities promote social and democratic interaction through long periods of free play with educational impulses, partially open concepts in the kindergarten rooms, as well as varied projects and participatory activities.[4]
Parents receive a detailed short concept with the care contract, which creates transparency.[4]
The core mission of the foundation is to give children a loving home – a legacy of Johannes Rominger that continues to this day. Values such as inclusion, diversity and social responsibility shape everyday life. The daycare centers are places where diversity is celebrated, democratic values are lived and long-term educational impulses are set. The foundation emphasizes human closeness and professional competence of its teams.[4][3]
As a non-profit organization, the foundation pursues sustainable goals through continuous building renovations and adaptation to current guidelines, which enables resource-saving modernization. Its focus on environmental and social awareness is rated by employees with 3.3 out of 5 points, which indicates committed initiatives, such as diverse educational projects and neighborhood ties.[5][3] The expansion to new locations shows a commitment to low-barrier, inclusive childcare in Stuttgart.
The Stiftung Rominger combines over 145 years of tradition with contemporary pedagogy and remains a reliable partner for families in the region. With a total of over 300 children in care, it creates spaces for development, play and community.[3][4]
