The Stiftung Samariterherberge Horburg is a diaconal institution for the support of people with disabilities and the elderly, accompanying people with support needs at the Horburg, Bad Dürrenberg, and Merseburg locations. Its services include accommodation, work and employment opportunities, educational and vocational training opportunities, and an outpatient care service with day care.[5][3]
At its core is a clear mission: people should be able to realize their life plans as self-determinedly as possible and experience no exclusion.[5] The foundation sees itself as an expression of Christian charity on behalf of the Protestant church, combining professional competence with personal commitment.[5] Its roots go back to 1853; it has been active in disability support since 1958, and in elderly support since 2021.[5]
An important component of the services is the workshop and employment world for people with disabilities. This includes diverse fields of work such as .[9] In addition, the foundation offers residential and living opportunities as well as support structures at several locations that promote participation and personal development.[5][3]
The Samariterherberge also includes the Pension and Conference Center "Altes Schulhaus" in Horburg. It combines hospitality with lived inclusion: people with support needs work there in various areas and actively contribute to the guests' stay.[2] The house offers rooms for relaxation, encounters, and focused work and is aimed at travelers, conference guests, and people seeking a break in the countryside.[2]
Sustainability at the Samariterherberge is primarily demonstrated in a understanding of social sustainability: the focus is on participation, inclusion, education, meaningful work, and respectful interaction with people.[5][2] The company thus creates structures that take long-term social responsibility and actively reduce social exclusion.
