The St. Elisabeth-Stiftung, based in Bad Waldsee, is a private foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Franziskanerinnen von Reute. With over 150 years of charitable tradition in Upper Swabia, it shapes the social landscape between Stuttgart, Ulm and Lake Constance. More than 2,700 employees care for and support around 6,000 people – from toddlers to the very elderly. The foundation finances its basic services through public funds and supplements these with donations in order to carry its commitment beyond the standard.
The core mission of the foundation is: To support, promote and accompany people in all situations in life – with dignity and inclusively. Supported by Christian values such as charity and participation, it creates safe spaces for a self-determined life. Inclusion, accessibility and professional participation are at the center. Whether people with disabilities, families or the dying – the foundation provides holistic and diverse support, tailored to individual needs.
The foundation is divided into four main areas:
Around 6,000 people receive care from childhood to old age. Hospices ensure dignified support for the dying.
Around 1,000 people with disabilities find supportive jobs in workshops for assembly, supplies and garden products. Locations in districts such as Alb-Donau and Biberach (e.g. Biberach, Ehingen, Heggbach, Laupheim, Bad Buchau) offer accessible jobs with regulated pay. Companies can credit invoices to the compensatory levy.
Over 150 young people are in training. Offers include school support (1:1 assistance), leisure programs and family support services – colorful and varied for children, young people and relatives.
Additional services complement the spectrum, including further education and training for employees, up to and including part-time studies.
Sustainability is an integral part: The foundation creates inclusive working environments that enable participation for people with disabilities and promote social integration. Workshops produce environmentally friendly products such as garden articles with enthusiasm and love. Vocational training, adult education and leisure activities strengthen resilience and independence. As a private foundation, it appeals for donations to celebrate and expand initiatives such as anniversaries for long-term employees (e.g. in the Heggbacher Werkstattverbund). The 2026 annual program focuses on a wide range of leisure activities that bring inclusion to life.
The St. Elisabeth-Stiftung embodies social change through practical action: Secure jobs, colorful leisure activities and empathetic support – for a life of dignity and joy. (2,148 characters)
