The Südharz Klinikum Nordhausen is an academic teaching hospital of the Jena University Hospital and the largest hospital in Northern Thuringia. With around 800 inpatient beds and places in the community psychiatric area, the hospital offers comprehensive medical care for the region. Approximately 1,900 dedicated employees care for around 28,000 patients annually as inpatients and day patients.
With its 26 specialist departments, the hospital covers a broad spectrum of medical disciplines. These include general and visceral surgery, anesthesia and operative intensive care, ophthalmology, dermatology and allergology, gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine (cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology), pediatrics and adolescent medicine, neurosurgery, neurology, psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics, as well as orthopedics, trauma and reconstructive surgery.
In addition to the specialist clinics, the Südharz Klinikum has various institutes, including a pharmacy, institutes for laboratory diagnostics, microbiology and transfusion medicine with its own blood donation center, pathology and radiology.
A particular focus is on interdisciplinary patient care in specialized competence centers. These include the breast center, the colon cancer center, the endoprosthetics center, the interdisciplinary continence and pelvic floor center, the perinatal center, the tumor center and centers for ENT and lung tumors.
The Südharz Klinikum is committed to the continuous treatment and care of people with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities and chronic addiction disorders. In the "Die Brücke" area, inpatient, day patient and outpatient services are provided for elderly people and people with disabilities.
As an academic teaching hospital, the Südharz Klinikum attaches great importance to the training and further education of medical personnel. It offers medical students from foreign universities the opportunity to complete clinical internships in various specialist areas. The hospital has a medical library with over 10,000 books, numerous specialist journals, internet workstations and an online library. In addition, employees and students have free access to the AMBOSS learning and knowledge platform.
