The Lebenshilfe Südliche Weinstraße is an established non-profit organization that has been supporting people with disabilities and their families in the Southern Palatinate for over 60 years. With the central guiding principle that every person should experience participation from the beginning, everywhere and throughout their lives and be able to live self-determined lives, the Lebenshilfe offers a comprehensive range of social services. These range from inclusive daycare centers and a specialized autism center, to various forms of housing and care, to integrative workshops (such as the Südpfalzwerkstatt) and inclusion companies. The offer also includes supporting specialist services for assistance and participation as well as day care facilities.
The organization was founded in 1964 as a parents' association and has developed over time into an important provider of social services with more than 560 full-time employees and a large volunteer network. With around 1,390 employees in Germany, it is one of the most important employers in the field of disability support in the region. Its offer is aimed at people with different impairments and their social environment in order to enable them to have comprehensive integration and a future worth living.
The main mission of the Lebenshilfe Südliche Weinstraße is to promote Selbstbestimmung, sozialer Teilhabe und persönlicher Entwicklung (self-determination, social participation and personal development) for people with disabilities. It is committed to an inclusive society in which barriers are removed and individual potentials are promoted. Values such as Respekt, Wertschätzung und Solidarität (respect, appreciation and solidarity) are fundamental to the work of the organization.
Sustainability aspects can be found primarily in the social dimension, in that long-term life prospects are created through inclusive work and housing opportunities. The Lebenshilfe continuously invests in the further development of barrier-free and sustainable support structures. It also promotes a sustainable community through the involvement of employees, families and volunteers, as well as through health promotion and training measures.
As a social innovation driver, the Lebenshilfe Südliche Weinstraße addresses current social challenges with tailor-made offers and relies on holistic and life-phase-specific care. At the same time, it is opening up as a modern employer and learning location for people who are looking for a meaningful activity with a perspective.
Overall, the Lebenshilfe Südliche Weinstraße stands for a unique community with social responsibility that sustainably shapes coexistence in the region and enables people with disabilities to live a self-determined, fulfilled life[1][3][4].
