The Bundesverband für Kindertagespflege (BVKTP) is the leading professional association for family daycare in Germany[2]. As an advocate and support organization, the association is committed to the professionalization, quality development and political recognition of childcare.
The BVKTP offers a comprehensive range of support services for all actors in the field of childcare[2]:
The main mission of the BVKTP is to continuously develop the quality of family daycare[2]. This includes the following priorities in particular:
The association understands family daycare as individual, flexible and safe care in small groups[3]. This form of childcare enables children to learn through play and develop in a manageable social environment - under the care of well-trained professionals[3].
The BVKTP regularly communicates with its target groups through a free newsletter with current information on childcare[1]. In addition, the association provides information in ten different languages in order to reach families with a migration background[2].
The association also deals with cross-cutting social issues. For example, in 2025, the BVKTP developed a comprehensive guide on inclusion in childcare and offers numerous publications and examples of good practice in this area[6].
As a central player in the German care system, the BVKTP makes a significant contribution to ensuring that family daycare is perceived as an equal alternative to institutional care services. The association acts as an interface between daycare providers, parents, authorities and political institutions.
