The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is an independent, nonprofit research organization dedicated to improving environmental performance in the transportation sector. With a global presence and in-depth analyses, the ICCT supports policymakers in developing sustainable transportation policies.
The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is an independent, nonprofit research organization founded in 2001 to provide outstanding, objective, and timely research as well as technical and scientific analyses for environmental regulatory agencies. Our headquarters is located in Washington, D.C., with additional international offices in São Paulo, Berlin, Beijing, and San Francisco.
Our mission is to improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of the road, shipping, and aviation sectors, as well as the corresponding fuels, to protect public health and mitigate climate change. We support policymakers and other stakeholders worldwide in developing ambitious and coordinated policies to eliminate air and climate pollution from the transportation sector and to limit warming to well below 2°C and ideally to 1.5°C this century[1][4][5].
The ICCT focuses on several key areas to achieve its sustainability goals:
The ICCT has a global network with offices in Beijing, Berlin, New Delhi, São Paulo, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., as well as fully remote staff in Indonesia, Colombia, Vietnam, and Mexico. Our work is funded by support from foundations and governments, including the ClimateWorks Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Energy Foundation[1][3][5].
The ICCT works closely with global experts, policymakers, and government agencies to provide relevant, rigorous, and unbiased research and technical and scientific analyses. Through this collaboration and our values, we contribute to shaping a clean and sustainable transportation future.
