The VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke is an established center for lifelong learning that provides a wide range of educational opportunities for people in the region. Its diverse course program includes, among other things, the areas of Life & Society, Health & Wellness, Cooking & Nutrition, Languages, Art & Creativity, Media & Digital, Basic Education and Professional Education.
The VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke sees itself as a place of encounter and exchange, where people of all ages and with different backgrounds come together to further their education, learn new skills and develop their personal interests.
A particular focus is on the offer of language courses. Here, interested parties can choose from a variety of languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and many more. The courses are tailored to different levels and enable participants to improve their language skills or learn a new language from scratch. The VHS sees language as a key competence and promotes intercultural understanding.
In the area of Health & Wellness, the VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke offers a wide range of courses to promote physical and mental well-being. These include relaxation courses, Yoga, Pilates, gymnastics, aqua fitness and dance courses. The aim is to strengthen the health literacy of the participants and to give them tools to reduce stress, perceive their body positively and activate their own resources.
The VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke flexibly adapts its offer to the current conditions and therefore also offers a range of online courses and hybrid learning formats. These enable participants to learn flexibly and independently of location.
Another important project of the VHS is the Werkhof, a youth workshop aimed at school-weary and school-refusing young people. The Werkhof offers practical educational opportunities and manual activities to strengthen confidence in one's own abilities and to promote social, school and professional integration.
The VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke is supported by a support association, the Volkshochschulvereinigung Witten e.V. (vhv). The support association is committed to the work of the VHS in terms of ideas and finances and supports, for example, the equipment of the classrooms and public relations.
The VHS Witten | Wetter | Herdecke strives to contribute to the sustainable development of the region. In the area of Cooking & Nutrition, emphasis is placed on conscious nutrition and the use of regional and seasonal products.
