The Katholische Hospitalvereinigung Ostwestfalen gGmbH (KHO) is a modern hospital network based in Bielefeld, which has united six traditional institutions in East Westphalia since July 2022: Franziskus Hospital Bielefeld, Mathilden Hospital Herford, Sankt Elisabeth Hospital Gütersloh, Sankt Vinzenz Hospital Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Sankt Lucia Hospital Harsewinkel and Marienhospital Oelde.[1][2][3]
With around 3,300 dedicated employees, the KHO provides care for approximately 50,000 inpatients and 120,000 outpatients annually in a broad spectrum of medical specialties.[4][6] These include internal medicine (e.g. gastroenterology, diabetology, geriatrics), surgery (general, visceral and trauma surgery), orthopedics, oncology, anesthesiology, gynecology and radiology.[3][6] The hospitals are patient-oriented and certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and offer modern acute care in a familiar atmosphere with flat hierarchies.[4]
In addition to core care, the KHO places great emphasis on education and training. At the education campus in Bielefeld, nursing, medical, technical, commercial and culinary professions are trained - including innovative concepts such as a training OR for practical learning.[2][7][9] As a shareholder of the Zentrale Akademie für Berufe im Gesundheitswesen (ZAB), the KHO enables local training. The KHO hospitals are among Germany's most attractive training companies in the service sector.[7]
Driven by Christian charity, the KHO strives for the best medical care in the region - strategically managed to combine optimal patient care with job security.[1][3][4] Core values are commitment, equality, a family atmosphere and patient-centered processes in medicine, nursing, administration, technology and service.[2][4][9] The traditional houses, such as the 173-year-old Sankt Vinzenz Hospital or the Marienhospital Oelde, which has existed since 1845, embody continuous development as regional health centers.[3]
The KHO actively integrates sustainability into its healthcare system: further training at the education campus focuses on innovative solutions for ecological and social responsibility in order to strengthen the profile of employees and promote long-term sustainable structures.[10] This underlines the association as a future-oriented partner that combines medical excellence with responsible management.
The KHO is shaping a successful future for patients, employees and the region - characterized by tradition, innovation and human closeness.[1][3] (1,748 characters)
