Watch Indonesia

Watch Indonesia e.V. is a German association, founded in 1991 in response to the massacre at the Santa Cruz cemetery in East Timor. The association was initiated by Indonesians and Germans in Berlin and serves as a bridge between Indonesian and East Timorese civil societies. The main mission of Watch Indonesia is to support the adherence to human rights, the promotion of democratization, the protection of the environment, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The association advocates for a variety of central issues, including human rights, democracy, environmental protection, conflict prevention, and peace promotion. Watch Indonesia works closely with Indonesian and East Timorese democracy, human rights, and environmental groups to anchor their concerns in German politics and public discourse. The values of the association include ending impunity, justice and reconciliation, climate justice, as well as the protection of land and indigenous rights.

• Lobbying and Public Relations: The association engages in political education, lobbying, and public campaigns to improve awareness and understanding of the situation in Indonesia and East Timor in Germany.
• Intercultural Exchange and Networking: Watch Indonesia organizes seminars, events, and exhibitions and invites guests from Indonesia and East Timor for political visit programs.
• Publications and Information: The association regularly publishes materials such as the magazine Suara – Magazine for Indonesia and East Timor, human rights and background reports, as well as studies and analyses on various topics.

Watch Indonesia focuses on several sustainable goals and initiatives:

• Environmental and Climate Justice: The association warns of the social, human rights, and ecological consequences of the exploitation of nature through palm oil monocultures, mining, the paper industry, and forestry.
