The well:fair foundation is a recognized German development organization dedicated to the human right to clean drinking water, sanitation and improved hygiene conditions[1]. What began in 2012 as a one-man foundation at the kitchen table in Dortmund has now grown into an established non-profit organization with 12 employees on two continents and a strong community of over 40,000 donors[1][3].
Our core mission is to realize the human right to clean water and sanitation in East Africa[1]. We pursue a holistic approach: Access to drinking water and sanitation forms the basis for health, education and a self-determined life in dignity[3].
The organization works primarily in the East African countries of , where the problem is particularly acute[5]. Worldwide, about - a situation that we want to change together with our supporters[1].
Through sustainable project work, we have already reached 439,255 people with long-term access to clean water and sanitation[2]. We have successfully implemented over 953 water extraction points and built 93 sanitary facilities for students and teachers[2]. These investments show measurable effects: Three years after the completion of our first projects in Kenya, we were able to record an increase in students of over 50 percent, especially because girls in puberty no longer have to stay away from school for health and privacy reasons[6].
A central feature of our work is our 100% promise: All donation funds entrusted to us are invested fully and without any deductions directly in the projects on site[3]. This is a core promise that we prove through the greatest possible transparency and regular audits.
Throughout Germany, we are one of the first non-profit organizations to meet the international standards for quality management systems according to ISO 9001 and undergo annual audits[2]. Quality is firmly anchored in our organizational structure - we have our own quality management department that reports directly to the management[2].
Our approach is sustainable: We employ highly qualified personnel, establish orderly process flows and build robust management systems[2]. This not only secures short-term assistance, but also contributes to long-term, structural improvements in the project regions[6].
In addition, we are committed through initiatives such as WIRKLICH WIRKSAM to raise awareness and awareness in this country, to sensitize people to global injustice and to encourage them to take action[3].
The well:fair foundation embodies the idea that clean water and sanitation are not luxury goods, but fundamental human rights. Through professional, sustainable project work, strict transparency and a strong community, we are committed day after day to ensuring that millions of people can lead a dignified and self-determined life.
