The Werkstätten für Behinderte Rhein-Main e.V. (WfB Rhein-Main) is a non-profit organization based in Rüsselsheim am Main, which since its founding in 1970 has been dedicated to the equal participation of people with disabilities in social life[3]. The company has evolved from its origins as a pure workshop to a comprehensive social organization and now supports around 1,000 children, adolescents and adults with disabilities in the Groß-Gerau region[3][4].
The core task of WfB Rhein-Main lies in enabling participation and self-determination[3]. The company is guided by the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the basic program of the Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe [3].
The guiding principles of the organization are based on three pillars[6]:
WfB Rhein-Main offers a differentiated and comprehensive service portfolio in four main areas[3]:
The company supports and promotes children up to primary school age through an inclusive daycare center and specialized early intervention[3]. The early intervention and counseling center works interdisciplinary with educators, therapists, pediatricians and schools to optimally support children and their families[5].
The living area offers a wide range from outpatient care to communal living[3]. This includes day care, assisted living and short-term living[9]. These offers are aimed in particular at adults with disabilities and enable various forms of self-determined living.
The work area provides versatile work and support for people with disabilities both in in-house workshops and with external partners[3][4]. The company understands work as a means of promotion and social integration.
A specialized department for vocational training offers qualified training and professional development[1].
In addition to the core areas, WfB Rhein-Main also provides specialized services[8]:
The organization employs over 350 employees, who work in almost 20 different services and facilities that are spread throughout the Groß-Gerau district[3]. The offer is supplemented by subsidiaries such as Solvere gGmbH (specialized in people with mental disabilities) and Alpha-Service gGmbH, which expand the range of services[4].
WfB Rhein-Main sees itself as a association-supported social enterprise that goes beyond classic disability support. The approach of inclusion runs through all areas of work - from early childhood to adulthood. The company works closely with childcare facilities, medical professionals, schools and other institutions to create a networked support system[5].
Through its diverse offers, WfB Rhein-Main contributes to an inclusive society in which people with disabilities can fully participate in economic, social and cultural life.
