WILD CHIMPANZEE FOUNDATION (WCF)

The Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of wild chimpanzees and their habitats since its founding in 2000.

The mission of the WCF is to promote the survival of the remaining wild chimpanzee populations and their habitats, thereby contributing to the preservation of the behavioral diversity of this fascinating species. The philosophy of the WCF is based on three central pillars: education, conservation, and research, all implemented by and for the African communities[2].

• Conservation Projects: The WCF implements comprehensive conservation projects in Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, and Guinea, focusing on regions where wild chimpanzees are still abundant. • Ecotourism: The WCF promotes ecotourism projects, such as the Ecomuseum Taï in Côte d’Ivoire, to strengthen the local economy and support conservation. Another example is the ecotourism project in Sapo National Park in Liberia, which also includes literacy and business management courses for local women[2][3].
• Community Support: The WCF supports the development of community micro-projects and is committed to promoting the economic resilience of local communities, especially in the context of climate change. For example, the WCF identifies and promotes valuable value chains such as vegetable farming, peanut production, and honey production[5].

• Protected Areas: The WCF has played a significant role in the establishment of protected areas such as the Moyen-Bafing National Park in Guinea and the Cavally Nature Reserve in Côte d’Ivoire[2].
• Environmental Education and Awareness: Through programs like the PAN Club, theater performances, debates, and visits, the public is educated about the importance of conservation. Regular patrols and awareness-raising efforts by Ecoguards also contribute to the preservation of forests and chimpanzee habitats[3].
