The Zweckverband Abfallwirtschaft Kreis Bergstraße (ZAKB) is a municipal waste management company that has been organizing waste management in the Kreis Bergstraße since 2002. The ZAKB collects, recycles and disposes of waste from private households and operates numerous facilities, including a waste management center, recycling centers and an energy park.
The main mission of the ZAKB is to ensure the quality of life and public services in the Kreis Bergstraße through efficient and environmentally friendly waste management. The ZAKB attaches great importance to cooperation with citizens and the promotion of sustainable practices.
The ZAKB is strongly committed to the Energiewende (energy transition) and relies on renewable energies. This includes the production of biogas from organic waste and the use of landfill gas for electricity generation. In addition, the ZAKB promotes Recycling and Abfallvermeidung (waste prevention) through educational campaigns and practical tips for the population. The ZAKB is part of the ETA-Plus Südhessen energy efficiency and climate protection network.
The ZAKB consists of 22 members, including cities, municipalities and the Kreis Bergstraße. The organization is managed by an association assembly, an executive board and a management board. The ZAKB employs around 280 people.
