Zweckverband Mobilität Ruhr-Lippe (ZRL)

As a member of the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe (NWL), the Zweckverband Mobilität Ruhr-Lippe (ZRL) bundles municipal and regional interests to ensure a networked and reliable local transport system in the Ruhr-Lippe area. The ZRL coordinates the expectations of local transport on site and, in cooperation with other responsible bodies, optimizes mobility in the region.

The ZRL relies on a consistent clock-face timetable, both on the rail with fast direct connections to the state capital Düsseldorf, to the Rhine axis and to the Ruhr area, as well as for the bus lines in rural areas. The aim is to optimize connections and transfers between train and bus, so that every city and municipality in the entire Ruhr-Lippe area can be reached every hour. This offer is continuously being developed.

The ZRL strengthens mobility in its region through various projects. These include the reactivation of the "Röhrtalbahn", the integrated express bus concept Ruhr-Lippe, the promotion of mobility stations and the analysis of movement data for Westfalen. A special focus is on data-supported service planning through the use of Automatic Passenger Counting Systems (AFZS) in buses. These systems anonymously record the use of bus transport and provide important data for optimizing the service.

The ZRL operates a Westfalen-wide background system in which the AFZS data from various sub-areas and transport companies flow together. This system makes it possible to assign passenger numbers and position data to the timetable and to provide users with a frontend for researching passenger numbers. In the future, the utilization should also be available live and in a forecast for upcoming bus journeys.

The ZRL is a member of the Alliance for Mobility and is committed to sustainable mobility concepts. It connects urban and rural areas and strengthens the mobility of the region through more connections and a better frequency.
