To implement the data-driven research agenda of the Cluster of Excellence GreenRobust (EXC 3099), we are seeking, at the earliest possible date, a

Data Steward (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 100%)

full-time, initially fixed-term until the end of the first funding phase of the Cluster of Excellence GreenRobust (funding period until 31 December 2032). The position is, in principle, part-time compatible.

The Cluster of Excellence GreenRobust is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within the framework of the German Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments. In a nationwide unique alliance of the Universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg, and Hohenheim, more than 150 scientists investigate how plant systems remain robust to environmental change at the molecular, physiological, and ecological levels.

Working within this forward-looking research consortium offers a rare opportunity to actively contribute to the establishment and long-term development of a central, cluster-wide research data infrastructure. The position is closely embedded in the ongoing research projects and enables intensive collaboration with experimental scientists as well as with experts in computer science, data science, and research IT. The overarching goal is to jointly develop sustainable, FAIR-compliant data structures that will support scientific discovery within the cluster in the long term.

Your responsibilities

Operational coordination, maintenance, and strategic development of the Central Data Hub (CDH) as the cluster’s central data infrastructure
Implementation and continuous improvement of FAIR-compliant research data management concepts in close collaboration with participating research projects
Consultation and support for researchers with respect to data organization, metadata annotation, documentation, and data publication
Coordination and quality assurance of data flows between experimental projects, the Plant Perturbation Atlas (PPA), and external repositories
Development, maintenance, and documentation of standards, workflows, SOPs, and metadata schemas
Acting as an interface between researchers, university IT infrastructure (e.g. ZDV), NFDI initiatives (in particular DataPLANT), and cluster coordination
Contribution to training activities, advisory services, and quality assurance measures in the area of research data management

Your profile

University degree (Master’s or PhD) in computer science, data science, bioinformatics, mathematics, or a related field
Proven experience in research data management, preferably in the life sciences
Excellent knowledge of the FAIR principles and relevant metadata standards (e.g. the ISA framework)
Experience in building, operating, or coordinating data-driven research infrastructures
Confident handling of data-related tools, workflows, and version control systems
Structured, independent, and communicative working style
Very good command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of German is an advantage
