Die Baugenossenschaft freier Gewerkschafter eG (bgfg) has stood for fair and liveable housing in Hamburg for over 100 years. Founded in 1922 by 16 trade unionists in response to the great housing shortage after the First World War, the cooperative continues to pursue the goal of providing its members with secure, affordable and high-quality housing[1][2]. Today, bgfg has around 7,700 of its own apartments and looks after more than 12,000 members, with cooperative apartments to be found in almost all Hamburg districts and the surrounding area[2].
