    BÜHNEN KÖLN SANIERUNG is the project for the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the stage ensemble at Offenbachplatz in Cologne, consisting of the opera house and playhouse. The goal is to modernize the traditional venues and make them fit for the future.

    The project includes the renewal of the stage technology in the opera house and playhouse, the acoustic optimization of the halls, the renewal of the building technology, and the implementation of current building and fire protection requirements. In addition, the listed building components will be restored and accessibility will be established. The ensemble will be expanded to include two additional venues: a children's opera and a Kleines Haus. A reorganization of logistics with underground storage areas and additional rehearsal stages is also part of the project.

    The mission of BÜHNEN KÖLN SANIERUNG is to create a modern and functional stage ensemble that meets the needs of opera, drama and dance while respecting the architectural significance of the site.

    An important goal is the energetic refurbishment of the existing building stock in order to ensure sustainable operation of the stages.

    The structural completion is scheduled for the second half of 2025. The project management is headed by Markus Greitemann (Deputy Mayor for Planning and Building) and Prof. Jürgen Marc Volm. The architecture and artistic construction management is the responsibility of HPP Architekten GmbH.
