The Virtual Museum of the Erkelenz Region is an innovative digital project dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the region. It was launched by the Heimatverein Erkelenz to preserve the memory of vanished villages and landscapes.
The main mission of the Virtual Museum is to preserve the cultural identity and collective memory of the region. It is committed to documenting and presenting the history and culture of the Erkelenz region in order to make it accessible to future generations.
The museum is supported by public and private funding, including the NRW Stiftung and the Landschaftsverband Rheinland. Current initiatives include the development of a gaming portal to playfully introduce young generations to history. In addition, the platform is continuously expanded to complete the presentation of the villages and the city of Erkelenz.
